Activities and Operational Information

 

Daniel Laurent Christian Ministries Community Development Corporation will provide services to elevate the quality of family development through education, counseling/mentoring and spiritual guidance.

Family Counseling Service:

Purpose: To provide counseling services to families for stability, reunification and family life assistance. The services will be provided through a variety of methods such as, Christian Education, Crusades, Revivals, Counseling, Retreats, Workshops and Family Vacations.

Program Summary:

The Family Counseling Service will offer:

• Life Skills Training: Bible Studies, Money management,

Family nutrition, Parenting Skills, Interviewing Techniques, Résumé Preparation, Job Skills Development, GED program, Work Ethics, Computer Training, Adult literacy Program. Remedial Reading and Trade skills, Technology School.

•For Life Skills Training, doors will open from 9AM to 9PM. Courses will be taught during this frame time. On special occasions, doors might be opened on weekends. (1)

Single Parent Network: Domestic Violence Counseling, Financial assistance, childcare assistance, housing, retreats, career planning, investment and money management and social events.

• Teen Parent Network: Education, Parenting Skills, Work Skills, Tutoring, Mentoring, childcare assistance, career planning, healthcare and financial assistance. 

• Drug Rehabilitation and Counseling: 12 step program, Healthcare, Housing Assistance, Follow-up care.

• Domestic Violence: Counseling and referral program for victims of domestic violence. Safe housing assistance, job, training and childcare assistance.

• Community Workshops/Seminars/Groups: Obtaining a Mortgage, Health Fairs, Investment and Retirement, Home Repair and Loans, Book Club, Co-op Food Programs, Learning other languages, Arts and Crafts, and Cooking and Sewing classes.

Scholarship Program: College Financial Aid counseling, College Search, providing small scholarships to student attending college or technical school.

• Recreational Services: Basketball, Football, Baseball, Volleyball, Aerobics, Weight Maintenance, Weight Lifting, Performing Arts, Swimming, and Arts and Crafts, Computer, Crime Prevention Classes partnering with the PAL program. (featuring Self Defense, Fitness, Morals and Standards). All services will be open to the community.

Staff: Services for this program will be provided by trained staff and outside contracted professionals.

Residential Homeless Shelter:

•Purpose: Due to the rising population of homeless persons, this shelter is designed to take persons off of the street and give them a warm, safe and nurturing place to live temporarily until permanent housing can be established.

Program Summary:

This shelter will be open to persons who have been determined homeless and in need of temporary housing. The facility will be open 24 hours a day and along with a 24 hour hotline. Individuals will be accepted through referrals from government and community agencies. We will offer job readiness counseling, drug counseling, and legal and domestic violence counseling. Additionally, we will supply healthcare evaluations and mental health evaluations. The shelter will offer an adult literacy program, GEL) preparation, permanent housing assistance, and financial assistance counseling (SSI, Welfare, Food Stamps).

•Staff: Services for this program will be provided by trained staff, social worker and counselors.

•Food Bank/S0UP Kitchen:

Purpose: To provide emergency food and nutritious meals for those in need.

Program Summary:

The Food Bank will supply individuals with a temporary means in which to feed themselves and their families. While receiving food from this program, they will also learn how to budget their monies, and how to shop wisely and nutritiously. The Soup Kitchen will eventually be open five days a week serving from 12:OOnoon to 2:00pm. As a start-up program - we will open twice weekly. Food will be served in a "Restaurant Style" to add dignity to those who are in need of the facility. The Soup Kitchen will be open to the public. Emergency bags of groceries will be given out twice a week and individuals must come with a referral from a government or community agency.

•Staff: Services will be provided by trained staff and a nutritionist.

•Youth Services:

Purpose: To offer services for the youth who are in need of assistance.

Program Summary:

This service will provide rental space for use as a childcare center for daily care of children age l year to pre-kindergarten. We will also offer a Teen Pregnancy and Parenting program, which will give instruction and support to teen parents. These sessions will be held twice a week during the evening. We will also offer an after school program offering tutoring, homework assistance and a mentoring program.

We will also offer a summer day camp for ages 8 years to 17 years. These services are open to the community and we will also accept referrals from government and community agencies.

•Staff: Services will be provided by trained staff.

 

 

Call DLCMCDC for more details. All services will be open to the community. However, DLCMCDC identification card has to be curried at all time, for security purposes. The processing fee is $25.00. The processing fee for lost or stolen card is $5.00. A new color will be assigned every year. To avoid trouble with security, Renew your card on December, before the new year. Smoking is not permitted. Food is permitted only in the Cafeteria. Your respect guaranties your access.
